The Electrical Design Engineer role is ideal for a professional with strong experience working on construction sites for industrial projects. The position combines electrical system design, construction documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and site team support throughout different stages of project delivery.
Responsibilities
Develop electrical system drawings for high-tension, low-tension, and low-voltage systems for industrial and other buildings
Coordinate with architectural and structural teams on space allocation, cut-outs, openings, equipment loads, foundations, racks, and cable trays
Select appropriate materials for electrical systems
Design single-line diagrams, distribution systems, cable routing, external service routes, lightning protection, earthing layouts, lighting systems, fire detection systems, public address and extra-low-voltage systems, and building management systems
Prepare electrical calculations using Microsoft Office, including transformer, diesel generator, fault level, and cable schedule calculations
Create and manage construction drawings and documentation, including tender and Good for Construction drawings, and coordinate with site teams
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and shop teams to resolve design and coordination challenges while ensuring compliance with applicable local and national codes
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering
4–8 years of practical experience in the design and documentation of electrical systems for industrial projects
Hands-on experience using AutoCAD and DIALux
Knowledge of relevant local fire and regulatory requirements, including IS, NBC, and NEC codes
Ability to resolve design issues independently and in collaboration with other engineering disciplines, construction teams, and clients
Strong organisational, task prioritisation, and coordination skills
Ability to communicate technical matters clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
