About the Role
As a production management staff member in a machine tool manufacturing company, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient material flow across procurement, inventory, and warehouse operations. This role also involves close coordination with our Japanese parent company, supporting production schedules, and driving process improvements. You will play a critical role in linking suppliers, internal teams, and management to keep production on track and cost-effective.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Supplier Management
• Source and procure materials, parts, and consumables required for production.
• Manage supplier coordination, monitor performance, and support audits.
• Negotiate contracts, costs, and delivery terms to optimize procurement.
• Ensure on-time deliveries from the Japanese parent company and local vendors.
Production & Materials Planning
• Align procurement and material availability with production schedules.
• Monitor material requirements based on forecasts, orders, and demand.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) by ensuring material readiness.
• Collaborate with shopfloor and planning teams to prevent shortages or delays.
Inventory & Warehouse Management
• Maintain optimum inventory levels, balance cost and production continuity.
• Manage inbound (receiving) and outbound (dispatch) warehouse operations.
• Implement FIFO/FEFO practices and lead stocktaking & reconciliation.
• Ensure safe storage, proper documentation, and compliance with audits.
Production Control & Administration
• Handle BOM (Bill of Materials) updates, design change management, and cost tracking.
• Maintain production drawings, records, and administrative data.
• Support reporting and coordination with production, quality, logistics, and finance.
Process Improvement & Projects
• Identify improvement opportunities in procurement and production processes.
• Drive Kaizen, Lean, or other efficiency improvement initiatives.
• Use digital tools (SAP ERP, Power Query, VBA, Excel) for automation and reporting.
• Help standardize processes through SOPs and assist in setting KPIs.
Compliance & Safety
• Ensure procurement and warehouse operations follow statutory and company regulations.
• Maintain adherence to safety standards in material handling and storage.
• Support ISO/quality audits with timely documents and reports.
Cross-Cultural Coordination
• Act as a communication bridge with the Japanese parent company.
• Facilitate effective information sharing between internal teams and Japan HQ.
• Adapt to Japanese work culture and ensure reporting discipline.
Skills & Competencies
Domain Skills
• Must: Practical experience in production management, procurement, and inventory control.
• Preferred: End-to-end understanding of supply chain operations.
Software/PC Skills
• Must: Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel with VLOOKUP).
• Preferred: SAP, Advanced Excel (Power Query, VBA), Database skills.
Project Management Skills
• Must: Ability to execute process improvement projects; strong coordination skills across functions.
