The Manager/Senior Manager role is a strategic opportunity for an experienced professional with strong exposure to trading, research, supply chain development, and business development in the steel and metal sectors. Based in Mumbai, this onsite role will support activities across domestic and import/export trading, market research, partner development, and investment-related initiatives within the Energy, Mineral Resources and Recycling division.
Responsibilities
Research
Collaborate with the business unit to identify project-specific needs and objectives
Conduct in-depth research on market trends, competition, and new opportunities related to the business division
Collate data, statistics, and information on various topics in relevant industries
Analyse and synthesise research findings into clear and concise reports, summaries, and presentations
Present findings to the business unit and provide suggestions based on the research
Stay updated on industry trends and developments to ensure accurate and relevant information
Trading
Handle procurement and sales of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap across domestic and global trading activities
Manage logistics, quality, and contractual operations for import and export activities
Support the development of supply chains and sourcing networks
Development
Identify and approach potential business partners, clients, and stakeholders to expand the business network together with the business division
Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients
Lead investment origination and approval processes, including preparation of investment proposals and coordination with headquarters
Manage client relationships and negotiations, acting as a key interface across stakeholders
Drive value creation at portfolio companies, including supply chain development and new business initiatives
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 8 to 10 years of working experience
Trading experience in domestic and import/export activities within the steel and metal sectors
Experience in supply chain development in any material industry
Experience in research activities using various sources, including external fieldwork or research institute-related work
Connections within the steel and automobile industries
Connections with government stakeholders related to the above industries would be valuable
Strong knowledge of trade activity, including domestic, export, and import operations
Analytical and detail-oriented, with strong research, problem-solving, and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and AI productivity tools
Able to work independently, manage multiple projects, and take ownership of tasks and outcomes
Curious, resilient, open-minded, and proactive in exploring new industries, markets, and business opportunities
Strong team player who can work effectively in a multicultural environment and adapt to Japan-related business practices
Effective in time management, reporting, stakeholder consultation, and communication, especially when addressing risks or challenges
