The Production Interpreter - Japanese Speaker role facilitates accurate communication between Japanese-speaking and English-speaking teams across production and related manufacturing functions. This onsite position combines real-time interpretation, technical document translation, and cross-functional coordination to support efficient operations and continuous improvement activities.
Responsibilities
Provide accurate interpretation between Japanese and English during production meetings, shop floor discussions, and daily operations
Translate production-related documents, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, quality standards, process sheets, reports, and technical manuals
Support Japanese-speaking colleagues in day-to-day communication with production, quality, maintenance, Production Planning and Control (PPC), and other cross-functional teams
Facilitate effective communication during production trials, audits, Kaizen activities, customer visits, and technical discussions
Assist in preparing and translating presentations, meeting minutes, reports, and official correspondence
Support the implementation of Japanese manufacturing practices, including 5S, Kaizen, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain the confidentiality of business, technical, and personnel information
Provide timely and accurate translations while maintaining appropriate technical terminology and company standards
Requirements
Proficiency in spoken and written Japanese, English, and Hindi
Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N2 certification is preferred; JLPT N3 may be considered with relevant manufacturing experience
Experience in Japanese interpretation and translation within a manufacturing or automotive environment
Good understanding of production processes and manufacturing terminology
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and TPM concepts is preferred
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret accurately in real time
Excellent coordination, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills
Ability to work independently while managing multiple assignments within tight timelines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience working in a Japanese manufacturing company is preferred
Willingness to work on the shop floor and support production operations as required
