Purpose of the Role

To lead and manage shift operations in the Gear Soft Machining section of FE Machining, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, delivery, and productivity standards. The role is pivotal in driving operational excellence and maintaining smooth shop floor functioning.

 

Educational Qualifications

  • B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent)

 

Key Skills & Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of gear machining processes: Turning, Hobbing, Shaving, Broaching, etc.
  • Strong grasp of TPM, Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Familiarity with CNC machine operations, tooling, and basic maintenance
  • Proficient in problem-solving and root cause analysis tools (Why-Why, Fishbone, 8D)
  • Exposure to Quality Management Systems (ISO/TS, IATF)
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on OEE improvement
  • Proficiency in MS Office and SAP/ERP systems (preferred)
  • Effective team leadership and shift management capabilities

 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and foster a zero-accident culture.
  2. Implement and maintain quality systems across product and process levels.
  3. Analyze OEE losses and initiate corrective actions to enhance productivity.
  4. Ensure timely delivery of components as per production schedules.
  5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives including Kaizen, Poka-Yoke, and cycle time reduction.
  6. Optimize manpower allocation and shift planning for operational efficiency.
  7. Uphold 5S standards and enforce discipline and SOP adherence on the shop floor.
  8. Collaborate with Maintenance, Quality, and Planning teams for issue resolution and plan execution.
  9. Facilitate training and skill development for operators and shift supervisors.
  10. Prepare and present shift performance reports with actionable insights.

 

Knowledge Requirements

  • Comprehensive understanding of gear machining processes and equipment
  • Familiarity with machining parameters and tooling life management
  • Proficient in lean tools: TPM, OEE, Kaizen, 5S, SMED
  • Awareness of safety and quality standards in 2-wheeler manufacturing

 

Experience

  • 5–8 years in the 2-wheeler/automobile manufacturing industry, preferably in machining and gear processes
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or shift leadership role
